Best time to visit Cambodia

If you are planning a visit to Cambodia but you do not know what time of year offers the best weather for your journey, you are not alone. Trying to figure out what the weather patterns in Cambodia looks like has been one of the most common concerns by people planning to travel to Cambodia for holiday.

The Cambodian weather can best be described as tropical and depending on which part of the country you are planning to visit, there are various differences in the amount of precipitation and temperature. But the average daily temperature is around 27 degrees Celsius.

Generally, the best time to travel to Cambodia is from October up to March, this is a dry season, when the temperature is moderate. From April, the weather can easily reach temperatures of above 40 degrees Celsius, and travelling around the country in such temperatures can be very uncomfortable.

The rainy season normally start from June up to October, during this time the south-western monsoon normally causes heavy rains nearly every day, normally during evening or late afternoon. However, the heavy rains should not ruin your day since the afternoon showers can sometimes refresh the air and lower the temperature.

The Cambodia rains are generally heavy but short and usually lead to brief view of beautiful skies with amazing thunder and lightning and dark ominous clouds. Above of all, the paddy-fields and the countryside are the brightest shade of green during these rainy seasons. September is well-known mainly for the precipitation; but this normally varies per region and every year is slightly different. Most visitors tend to stay away during the wet season, but there are some benefits to visit Cambodia at this time. One of them is plenty of rain, and it is also less dusty. The view is a deep, lush green and the rivers and waterfalls are at their most spectacular. During that time of year the temperature during the day is around 24 degrees Celsius, and the evenings can be a bit cooler.

January and February are the driest months of the year here, and sometimes the precipitation is not there at all during these months. The weather in Cambodia is coolest between November and January, but it is very unlikely that the temperature to drop below 20 degrees Celsius. The dry months are April and May.

Maybe you are planning to spend your time in the beaches during your trip to Cambodia? Although the country is not well-renowned for its beaches as compared to its neighbors, the deserted beaches of Kep and the beaches around Sihanoukville are great for relaxing and various outdoor activities. Perhaps you want a dry, sunny and warm weather during your stay at these beaches, so the best time to come is during the dry season.

So, to any person who is still unsure what time of year would be best for him to holiday in Cambodia, a personal advice is to simply allow the Cambodia weather to be a part of your journey experience! The country is a great holiday destination all year round; what you need to keep in mind is that the weather is always very unpredictable.
